WHEN THE WEATHER CHANGES
You check the forecast before you leave.
Clear skies.
A little wind.
Perfect.
So you go.
Then somewhere halfway there, the sky changes.
The clouds roll in.
The mountains disappear.
And rain starts tapping against the windshield.
For a moment, you wonder if you should turn around.
LET IT RAIN
But sometimes the weather changes the place in ways you couldn't have planned.
The forest gets darker.
The rocks become slick.
The air gets colder.
Everything becomes quieter.
Mist settles between the trees.
The lake loses its reflection.
And suddenly, the landscape you came to see looks completely different.
Maybe that's not a bad thing.
NOT EVERY DAY NEEDS TO BE PERFECT
We're used to planning around bad weather.
Rain means changing plans.
Clouds mean less visibility.
Cold means staying inside.
But the outdoors doesn't stop being beautiful because the forecast changed.
Sometimes the best walks happen under grey skies.
Sometimes the best photographs happen five minutes after the rain starts.
Sometimes the quietest places are the ones you find when everyone else has gone home.
THE SOUND OF RAIN
There's something about rain in the wilderness.
It hits the leaves.
Runs down the rocks.
Collects along the trail.
Falls onto the surface of the lake.
And for a while, that's the loudest thing around you.
No traffic.
No notifications.
No conversations.
Just rain.
You stop trying to hurry through it.
STAY A LITTLE LONGER
Maybe you don't need to wait for perfect conditions.
Maybe you just need the right attitude toward imperfect ones.
Put on another layer.
Keep walking.
Find somewhere to sit.
Watch the clouds move.
Let the weather become part of the day instead of something that ruined it.
THE FORECAST WILL CHANGE.
The clouds will move.
The rain will stop.
The sun will come back.
And you'll probably forget most of the plans you had that morning.
But you'll remember the walk.
The smell of wet trees.
The sound of rain on the leaves.
The mountain appearing through the clouds for just a few seconds.
Those are the moments you don't plan for.
THAT'S THE IDEA.
Don't wait for the perfect day to go outside.
Sometimes the imperfect ones are the ones you'll remember.
AL PROSPIRA
For rainy trails.
Cold mornings.
Cloudy mountains.
And every day that doesn't go according to plan.
GO OUTSIDE ANYWAY.
